  • Corrective make-up for all face shapes and skin types
  • Make-up for mature skins, ethnic & oriental
  • Cosmetic camouflage (concealing scars and blemishes)
     
  SPECIALISED MAKE-UP TECHNIQUES FOR - PHOTOGRAPHIC, TV, MANNEQUIN & COMPETITIVE MAKE-UP
  • The use of specialised lighting of Media and Commercials
  • Make-up for black & white and colour for Photographic shoots
  • Make-up for Avant Garde for T.V. and Ramp Shows
  • Make-up for mannequins and cabaret
  • Fantasia make-up for Fashion and T.V.
  • Glamour make-up for Fashion, Ramp and T.V.
  • Application of false eyelashes for top and bottom
     
  FILM AND STAGE MAKE-UP
  • Basic male and female make-up for stage and screen
  • Character make-up (Geisha girls, Kabuki, devils, demons, etc.)
  • Ageing of the face, neck and hands using latex and cream.
  • Pantomime – tiger, leopard, rabbit, cat, bird of paradise, etc.
  • Clowns, Dolls, Egyptian, Ballet etc.
     
  SPECIAL EFFECTS
  • Making bald caps from latex and plastic
  • Colouring of bald caps
  • Piece moulding – noses, chins, bags under eyes, etc.
  • Designing of wounds, injuries and scars
  • Use of theatrical blood, collodin and various materials in film making
  • Making beards, moustaches and eyebrows

  • Business Management, including how to become established as a freelance make-up artist

Students will compile a portfolio of their work throughout the course. Updating it as the course progresses as they help with make-up at local Theatres, Television productions and Fashion shoots. This portfolio used for job interviews after graduation.
     
  EXTRA COURSES (OPTIONAL – at an additional charge)
Those students wishing to enhance their qualifications can take extra courses in:
  • Prosthetics – sculpturing, taking impressions and making moulds. The use of hot latex and cold foams, colouring and masking foam applications. Creation of whole foam pieces
  • Short term courses in personal beauty make-up. Fridays or Saturdays from 09:00 to 12:00 at R350-00 per day.
     

APPLICATION
All students living in South Africa will be required to attend an interview. Overseas students are asked to provide character and general references

DURATION OF COURSE
THE MAKE-UP ISSUE Certificate in artistic make-up, film and television make-up and special effects is awarded to all students who pass the examinations. Students will also submit a thesis and portfolio that will be awarded a percentage and added to the final examination mark. The duration of the full time make-up course is 6 months. Part time course duration is 12 months on Saturday mornings.

EXAMINATIONS
At the end of the course there will be a 1-week exam as follows:
Day 1: Beauty make-up (i.e. day, night, wedding, martic farewell etc.)
Day 2: Fashion make-up (i.e. ramp, photographic, television etc.)
Day 3: Theatre make-up (i.e. ageing, geisha, ballet, fantasy etc.)
Day 4: Special effects (i.e. cut off leg & fingers, burns, bullet wounds etc.)
Day 5: 3-hour theory exam

• Students are required to bring their own models for exams

COURSE FEE
The fee includes all tuition and basic kit. Students keep everything that they make in school – beards, bald caps projects, etc. which will be useful to them when applying for work. Please note: terms are available. Course fees are subject to change in 2007 without prior notice.

WELCOME PACK
On the first day of the course students will be issued with a basic make-up kit. The pack includes professional make-up brushes and a kit of make-up for both beauty and stage work (including materials such as, eyeshadows, foundations, lipsticks, blushers, sponges, latex, film blood, special plastic, moulding putty, etc.)
