Make-Up Course

The students will receive a make-up kit which will include professional make-up brushes and a kit for both beauty and stage work. The kits are included in the application fee and include all the necessary make-up that is needed for the duration of the course.

The full-time make-up course runs over 6 months and entails the following:


  • Basic skin care, function and anatomy of skin
  • Preparation of skin for application of skin products and make-up
  • Lash and brow shaping and tinting
  • Choice and use of foundations – different types and makes
  • Choice and use of professional make-up brushes

Basic Make-Up Techniques

  • Day, evening and wedding – natural, medium and dark look
  • History of make-up and fashion – 1920s to current trends
  • Corrective make-up for all face shapes and skin types
  • Make-up application for all skin types and ages – for day to evening looks
  • Weddings and matric farewells – natural, medium, dark looks
  • Cosmetic camouflage – concealing scars and blemishes

Photographic, Television and Fashion Techniques

  • Make-up for photographic shoots, television and ramp shows
  • Fantasia make-up for fashion shows, television and cabaret
  • Glamour make-up for fashion shoots, ramp and television
  • Application of false eyelashes for top and bottom

Film and Stage Make-Up

Male and female character make-up for stage and screen:

  • Geisha girls
  • Kabuki
  • Devils
  • Demons
  • Clowns
  • Dolls
  • Egyptian
  • Ballet
  • Animal Face Painting
  • Death
  • Skeleton
  • Fantasy Characters
  • Theatre Ageing

Special Effects Make-Up

Moulding, designing, colouring and applying of:

  • Bald caps
  • Putty for noses, chins and cheeks
  • Wounds – scars, bullet wounds, chopped fingers and burns
  • Theatrical blood
  • Beards, moustaches and eyebrows

Additional Lectures

  • Business Management – how to invoice your clients
  • Self image in interview procedures – etiquette on set and backstage, and acceptable dress code
  • Rates for make-up artists and hair stylists


Students will compile a portfolio of their work throughout the course.
